چکیده

The reversíbilíty of the adsorption of phosphate on goethite was measured by dlluting suspensions of goethite on which phosphate was adsorbed with large volumes oí phosphate-frce solution at the same ioníe strength. The effect on the reversibility of various adsorptíon and desorption conditions was studied, particularly pH, temperature, ionic strength and time of reaction. The apparent irreversibílity of the adsorption reaction seems to be due to a slow adsorption reaction of part oí the phosphate after a very rapid initiai adsorption. with a similar behaviour when the phosphate is desorbed. When the total adsorption plus desorption time is long enough. both adsorption and desorption poínts tend to He on a single curve which corresponds to the isotherm calculated according to the Stern doublelayer theory.

Adsorption, desorption, and surface-promoted hydrolysis of glucose-1-phosphate in aqueous goethite (α-FeOOH) suspensions.

Adsorption, desorption, and precipitation reactions at environmental interfaces govern the fate of phosphorus in terrestrial and aquatic environments. Typically, a substantial part of the total pool of phosphorus consists of organophosphate, and in this study we have focused on the interactions between glucose-1-phosphate (G1P) and goethite (α-FeOOH) particles. The adsorption and surface-promot...

Impacts of hydrous manganese oxide on the retention and lability of dissolved organic matter

Minerals constitute a primary ecosystem control on organic C decomposition in soils, and therefore on greenhouse gas fluxes to the atmosphere. Secondary minerals, in particular, Fe and Al (oxyhydr)oxides-collectively referred to as "oxides" hereafter-are prominent protectors of organic C against microbial decomposition through sorption and complexation reactions. However, the impacts of Mn oxid...

EFFECT OF KC1 AND CaC12 AS BACKGROUND ELECTROLYTES ON THE COMPETITIVE ADSORPTION OF GLYPHOSATE AND PHOSPHATE ON GOETHITE

-Competitive adsorption between glyphosate and phosphate on goethite was evaluated. The influence of background electrolyte on the adsorption of glyphosate and phosphate was also investigated by using 0.01 M KC1, 0.1 M KC1 and 0.01 M CaCI 2 as background electrolytes. Experiments showed that phosphate displaced adsorbed glyphosate from goethite, whereas glyphosate did not displace phosphate. Re...

Competitive Interaction between Phosphate and Citrate on Goethite

Interaction between various species in natural systems may affect the adsorption of these species and thereby their mobility and bioavailability. Recently an ion adsorption model has been developed, based on the surface structure of metal (hydr)oxides and the structure of surface complexes identified by spectroscopy. This model has been applied to the adsorption of phosphate and weak organic ac...
